Phi Mu Pledges $10 million in 5 years

At their biannual convention in Las Vegas, NV, over 550 Phi Mu members gathered to celebrate sisterhood, participate in National Council elections, learn from exceptional volunteers and return home to share how they became even more inspired by their vibrant Fraternity.  They also reignited their passion for raising funds and awareness for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The Phi Mu Creed establishes the idea of service to others by beginning: “To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand” and includes the line, “To minister to the needy and unfortunate.”  At the 1916 National Convention, delegates voted to establish the custom of adopting philanthropic work under the direction of a national committee. The philanthropic work would focus on child welfare. In the early 1980s there was a movement within Phi Mu for more “hands on” programs that would bring the satisfaction of seeing the results of philanthropic work locally.  At the 1986 National Convention, 32 years ago, CMN Hospitals was adopted as the national philanthropy of Phi Mu Fraternity.

Over the past 32 years, this partnership has developed a deeper meaning. Through the organization’s support for local children’s hospitals, members have gone above and beyond in living out their creed.  Phi Mu has had a substantial impact on the evolution of children’s healthcare, helping to ensure hospitals have the resources, equipment, research and facilities available to give every child the best chance at life.  Phi Mu members have also fostered a culture of giving and care among their sisters, campus communities, family and friends, inspiring those around them to give back in the same ways.

In Phi Mu’s first year of fundraising for CMN Hospitals, a total of $53,539.55 was raised. Last year, in 2017 alone, Phi Mu raised over $2 million for 70 local children’s hospitals. To further deepen their organization’s commitment to supporting CMN Hospitals, Phi Mu has announced their commitment to raise $10 million in over the next 5 years.  In their first-ever public commitment, Phi Mu is so excited to continue to move the needle on the impact collegiate and alumnae members have in their local communities.
